Full Article:

The research developed aims to explore the features of user interaction with geo-referenced information, using the actual physical environment and its elements as interface. The mobile computing and the geographical indexing of digital data have established a new interaction model with information. It is up to the designer to project location-aware systems and interfaces to allow users to access the surrounding information. It was identified that the current solutions for this purpose using screens and other technological devices constrain the relationship of the user with the environment. As an outcome of the research, a mobile application was developed to avoid the screen interaction with the physical objects. The system uses the location and orientation sensors available in smartphones to interact with the mapped environment. Thus, the user points the device to directly select the object of interest, receiving the data assigned to it. Without the interference of screens or immersive devices, elements of the environment behave as their own interface and the technology becomes more subtle in its everyday use.
