Use of landmarks in the presentation of bus routes in a web app for mobile devices

This paper describes the development of a web application for mobile devices for the public transport users. The aim of the research is to investigate the validity of using landmarks in the presentation of bus routes, in order to guide passengers with little familiarity with the region where they travel. As a case study, a specific bus route from the Municipal Public Transport System in Vitória (ES) was selected, identifying the existing landmarks in its path based on the categorization proposed by Lynch (1980). With this information, a working prototype was built, dealing with aspects related to the information architecture and navigation system, the presentation layer (visual design) and the system implementation.
