This article intends to approach two topics of Manoel de Barros poetry: the pre-things and transversal activity, relating poetry with the creation process of the designer in the conceptual phase of product development. The aim is to search for new forms, functions and sensations to the artifacts that can be designed. Pre-thing, for the author, is how he sets things before they are things. In other words, before being named and shaped by man. In the transverse activity, the author attributes new natures to objects and elements around him. This may contribute to the beginning of the creation process in design that precedes the usual methodologies of design authors, especially product design authors. The creative process of Manoel de Barros, which is contextualized in writing and poetry, can help the designer as a creative way of perceiving the forms, functions and classifications for things in an unconventional way, bringing new ideas, creations and innovations.
