This research presents the changes in communication technologies and their influence in the forms of the visual presentation of information. It aims to describe the relationship between the technological development and the possibilities created for graphic design of information. The research in this subject is important because the studies about media technologies usually have superficial references in the field of visual language. This article is a bibliographic and exploratory research. It is organized in a linear historical perspective divided in three different parts: the era of print, the Industrial Revolution and the emergence of digital media. It is considered that those three historical moments summarize the major milestones in the development of the media. As a result, it was observed that any change in the communication technologies affects the visual presentation of information since there are new possibilities, limits and potentials to be explored. Throughout the history of media it could be observed that, while the communication technologies aimed to be cheaper and efficient, the visual presentation of information has become more free and accessible and nowadays there are increasingly unlimited forms to present information.
