The letters of the discovering of Brazil a graphic analysis about the legacy of Pero Vaz de Caminha and Master João Faras

The aim of this paper is to address one of the models of writing used in Portugal at the time of the Great Discoveries and in Brazil during the first century as a Portuguese colony. Written in Portuguese sixteenth century, the letters we will discuss in this article show a language still in training, a period called by the Portuguese specialists as "ante classic". This approach is made under a technical and historical bias. However our proposal intends to be a graphical analysis of the writings of Pero Vaz de Caminha and of the Master João Faras, supported by Palaeography and Calligraphy. Used, among other documents, the letters of these two important figures in our history report to the king about the expedition of the fleet commanded by Pedro Alvares Cabral in 1500. This analysis aims to provide the reader with some knowledge of how the models of the alphabets are classified. The observation of the constructive and graphic aspects of letters, such as scale proportions, kind of instruments used and the angles of work established for each model.
