The Iconography of Truck Art in the Brazilian State of Pernambuco

This paper presents the results of the cultural project ‘The Iconography of Truck Art in the Brazilian State of Pernambuco'', developed with funding from FUNCULTURA – State of Pernambuco Fund for Cultural Incentives. The main objective of the research was to investigate the ornamental tradition of the trucks of Pernambuco to develop a collection of graphic symbols relevant to the local culture. The field research was developed in four cities from Pernambuco: Recife, Olinda, Jaboatão dos Guararapes and Caruaru. At these places were taken photos of the object of study and also were performed visits to local business that produce trucks bodies. The final result of the project involved the construction of a image bank with more than 300 photos, development of a website with detailed information about the research and the project of a dingbat font composed by the most representative graphic elements collected at the universe of analysis.
