"This study evaluates the technical and economic viability of a pectinproduction process from orange juice industry waste, using SuperPro Designer®software to simulate the production flowsheet. The model was fed with waste quantitydata generated from Greenpeople®. The simulation results indicate that the process istechnically viable, with a pectin yield of 12.05% using acid extraction with HNO3.However, the economic analysis revealed that the operating cost per kg of pectinexceeds the analyzed selling prices, indicating that economic viability depends on thesale of by-products, such as essential oil and animal feed."
