The purpose of this document is to present a research based on a literature review in the fields of graphic design and information design, highlighting the topics visual communication, visual language and analysis of syntactic and semantic aspects in visual messages. Were also decisive information obtained by interviews already published and conducting semi-structured interviews with scientific illustrators, in order to understand the development process of illustration projects, from the first customer contact to delivery of work performed
