Relation between Knowledge-Intensive Business Services and Productive Structure: a study based on Network Analysis (2000 - 2014)

Este artigo examina a evolução da importância dos serviços intensivos em conhecimento para a estrutura econômica brasileira e estadunidense, em especial analisa-se a relação deste grupo de setores com as diferentes atividades compreendidas em um subsistema tecnológico. Nesse intuito, com base na metodologia de análise de redes, investiga-se as matrizes insumo-produto nacionais para estimar as densidades setoriais e intersetoriais, entre os anos de 2000 e 2014, a partir da utilização da base de dados da WIOD (2016). Os resultados indicam aumento da participação dos serviços avançados nos fluxos comerciais internos brasileiros e intensificação das relações setoriais com os demais setores analisados. Já a economia estadunidense apresenta resultados ambíguos, indicando estagnação da influência dos serviços sofisticados para a estrutura econômica no período analisado. Em síntese, as evidências sugerem potencial de dinamismo dos serviços intensivos em conhecimento para o desenvolvimento do sistema econômico brasileiro.

This article examines the evolution of knowledge-intensive business services importance on Brazilian and USA economic structure, in particular analyzing relationship of this group of sectors with activities included in a technological subsystem. Therefore, the article is based on network analysis methodology, national input-output matrices are investigated to estimate sectoral and intersectoral densities, among 2000 and 2014, using WIOD (2016). Results indicate increase participation of advanced services in Brazilian internal commercial flows and intensification of sectoral relations with other segments. On the other hand, USA economy appear ambiguous results, indicating stagnation in influence of sophisticated services on economic structure at analyzed period. In summary, evidence suggests potential dynamism of knowledge-intensive business services for development of the Brazilian economic system.
