Providing better healthcare experiences is a complex challenge, requiring a holistic view when contemplating different aspects of the user, system, and context. The experience-based design (EBD) approach captures, understands, improves, and measures the user's experience on the journey, aiming to establish efficient and enjoyable healthcare systems. In this sense, the objective of this study is to investigate the potential of design in generating better user experiences in health through a literature review. The 22 selected studies show a predominance of incremental innovations provided by design to improve the accessibility and usability of health systems based on the user's cognitive and sensory aspects. User involvement in the different design phases is also observed but in a timid way. There are still unexplored opportunities related to the application of design in the generation of better user experiences in health.
