Ponto, linha e campo: três modos de ver o campo do design

Point, line and field: three ways of seeing the field of design

KAIZER, Felipe ;

Artigo:

In this article, we address the issue of the field of design, starting from the reflections of Bruce Archer, Nigel Cross and, mainly, Richard Buchanan. In order to organize concurrent conceptions of the field, we make use – in addition to the idea of design as a field – of the figures of the line and the point. Thought as a line, design corresponds to a basic discipline to all specializations, and, as point, design becomes the meeting place of different knowledges and practices aimed at the creation and transformation of organizations. We identify the issue of the field as being fundamental for some design professionals and educators after the Second World War, when problems of greater scale and complexity began to demand new approaches and design methods; and the organization as the main social entity responsible since then for the world we inhabit, namely, the artificial or human-made world.
