This paper is the study of mathematical modeling of a pneumatic actuator responsible for triggering a bench for tests of mechanical structures. Pneumatic actuators have the advantages of being a low cost technology, easy maintenance, good power/weight ratio, fast response, and especially a clean technology that does not pollute the environment. However, for pneumatic actuators mathematical modeling is complex when compared to other types of drives, since they have severe limitations in control resulting from the highly nonlinear characteristics. The methodology used to develop the mathematical modeling of the pneumatic actuator comprises the steps of literature review, the systematization of the constitutive equations of the system itself, including the nonlinearities and the determination parameters of the dynamic system. The main objective of this study is the mathematical modeling of the pneumatic actuator using a nonlinear mathematical model of 5th order, which includes the nonlinearities present in the system, as well as the identification of the model parameters under study. The results illustrate the features of the developed mathematical model. A bench for testing of mechanical structures is being developed with support from MCTI/CNPq/SPM-PR/Petrobras (public notice nº. 18/2013) and CAPES/FAPERGS (public notice nº 15/2013).
