Materialidades do medo: compreendendo a estética da segurança pela antropologia dos materiais

Materialities of fear: understanding the security aesthetics through the anthropology of materials

O presente artigo propõe reflexões sobre o estudo das materialidades do medo, produtos da percepção de insegurança, a partir de correspondências com sua matéria constituidora. Inicia refletindo sobre paradigmas do design como lente para acessarmos ontologias de vida e modos de ser e estar no mundo, caracterizando o sistema de valores moderno-colonialista; em seguida, projeta este sistema nas condicionantes estéticas que coordenam as práticas materiais de segurança, identificando em palavras como ordem e limpeza indícios de materialidades do medo; daí, explora o estudo de materiais como produtores simbólicos nas práticas do design; conclui com um breve relato de experiência em campo em uma localidade urbana onde muros e outros sistemas de defesa fazem uso de materiais como forma de costurar discursos de poder.

This paper reflects about the study of the materialities of fear, a product of the perception of insecurity, based on correspondences with its constitutive matter. It begins by reflecting on design paradigms as a lens to access ontologies of life and ways of being in the world, characterizing the modern-colonialist value system; then, projects this system in the aesthetic conditions that coordinate the material practices of security, identifying in words like order and cleanliness indications of materialities of fear; hence, it explores the study of materials as symbolic producers in design practices; concludes with a brief account of a field experience in an urban location where walls and other defense systems make use of materials as a way to sew discourses of power.
