Incorporating Cyrillic typography to the multi-script design methodology

Silva, Sérgio Luciano da ;

Full Article:

This paper, based on the studies of the historians Paul Cubberley and John Man and on the researches of the typography specialists Vladimir Yefimov, and Maxim Zhukov, proceeds to a diachronic analysis of the Cyrillic, with emphasis on the history of the typography and on the culture. From this, it synthesizes and establishes criteria that rule Cyrillic script in their present typographic form, and to incorporate them into commercial demand in multi-script projects as well. The goal and the main contribution of this work are to go further into the formation of the methodological dynamics that regulate multi-script typeface design in the field of alphabets, as well as to provide the designer with grounds that are formally and culturally embedded in Western typography.
