The research seeks to explore and understand the creative processes for the production of photogravures (BENSON, 2008; STULIK and KAPLAN, 2013) with urban landscape theme, based on theoretical and practical investigation. Gilberto Tomé, Raphaelle Faure-Vincent and Thereza Miranda constitute the research corpus: they are engravers who take off from similar techniques and motifs and develop unique languages; in their works, photography is used both as a contemporary testimony and as a memory archive (SONTAG, 2004), stimulating reflections on urban space. Taking as a reference the writings by Salles (2008 and 2011) on genetic critic- a field of knowledge that was born in the late 1960s and addresses the work of art under construction - the process documents will be investigated, in order to understand how the ideas are originated; what are the stages of work, how the graphic experiments take place and how fortuity is embodied. The method used is documentary and bibliographic research, analysis of works and semi-structured interviews with artists and specialists. Experimental practical research will also be developed, for which calcographyc photogravures with urban themes will be produced, establishing relationships and analogies between analyzed works. In the first interview for the research, carried out with Gilberto Tomé, it was noticed a certain difficulty in accessing the indexes of the process – especially for old engravings. The practical work proposes, then, to systematize the process documents and working methods, with the registration of drafts, digital files, etc. It is expected to make a contribution to the understanding of the languages and procedures used in photogravures, as well as to stimulate reflection on the creative processes, from conception to printed image.
