The use of hemicellulosic fraction from some agroindustrial wastes for second generation bioethanol (2G) production depends on microorganisms capable of pentose and hexose fermentation. The present study evaluated the efficiency and viability of bioethanol production carried out with Galactomyces geotrichum UFVJM-R10 fermentation capability in cotton seed cake hemicellulosic fraction. The biomass hydrolysis was performed on a 31% rate solid/liquid (m/v) using a H2SO4 8% solution at 120ºC and 1 atm pressure for 38 minutes. The best product yields (1.16 g g-1), fermentative efficiency (>100%) and volumetric productivity (0.05 g L -1 h -1) were observed in the medium with nitrogen and mineral salts supplementation. From the results, it can be inferred that G. geotirchum UFVJM-R10 has potential for bioethanol production from glucose and xylose assimilation. Furthermore, the addition of a supplementing solution containing nitrogen and mineral salts should be considered to achieve better results.
