Enhancing the participation of Design in reading incentive plans

The dismissal of young people from literary experience comprises a recurrent discourse in the educational field despite the number of planned and executed governmental initiatives. This paper proposes the enhancement of selection and analysis criteria developed for the School Library National Plan (Plano Nacional Biblioteca da Escola  - PNBE) concerning the places occupied by Design in literature books due to its relevance to the approximation of young people and literary reading. Although Design can be presented as a field of technological nature and interdisciplinary vocation, one cannot conclude that the fields it dialogues to, in the construction of the object book, are aware of its scope. Thus, this research evidences the existence of a superficial look over the dimension of the Design field concerning public policies to encourage reading, proposing criteria that consider young readers in their sociocultural characteristics and value Design as a mediator agent in the relationship reader-reading object.
