The energy consumption of automotive vehicles has been the subject ofmajor discussions worldwide, mainly with the fomentation to introduce electric vehiclesin replacement of vehicles powered by fossil and renewable fuels. The main goal ofthis study was to perform a systematic review on the available literature for calculatingenergy consumption regardless of the source consumed: fossil, renewable or electricsourcing. Additionally, we also focused on understanding methods for measuring CO2emissions and review the main automotive driving cycles globally. More recentlypublished studies were visited in order to formulate a theoretical basis on theaforementioned topic. The proposal intended to clarify and support projects in thedevelopment mobility field and serve as a model for referenced research for energyconsumption of automotive vehicles
