Este artigo resulta do estudo das relações entre Design e História Cultural, no século XVIII, por meio do inventário e análise iconográfica de objetos relacionados ao consumo do café e chá como xícaras, pires, bules, chaleiras, açucareiros e colheres, de porcelana ou prata para os nobres; e cerâmica, para as demais classes sociais. A criação de tais artefatos, por designers do período em questão, muito contribuiu para as transformações nas práticas culturais, e para o desenvolvimento do Design como Ciência.

This article results from the study of the relationship between Design and Cultural History in the eighteenth century through the inventory and iconographic analysis of objects related to the consumption of coffee and tea such as cups, saucers, teapots, teapots, sugar bowls and spoons, of porcelain or silver for the nobles; and ceramics, for the other social classes. The creation of such artifacts, by designers of the period in question, greatly contributed to the transformations in cultural practices, and to the development of Design as Science.
