Building Civic Engagement Through Playful Citizen-Generated Data

Pereira Junior, Clorisval Gomes ;

CIDI:

Em nossa análise, discutimos a importância do jogo no pensamento crítico e especulativo do design.

CIDI:

In this paper we present a critical view on the concept of smart cities to argue for a change of focus to smart citizens instead. We present a panorama of initiatives in the domains of civic media, citizen science and collaborative awareness networks that are triggering new forms of social innovation. We propose that exploratory design games using playful citizen-generated data techniques are a valuable tool in participatory design initiatives focused on civic engagement and city making. To this extent, we observe some initiatives exploring creative and playful forms of citizen-generated data. In our analysis we discuss the importance of play in critical and speculative design thinking. We conclude by presenting some perspectives for playful citizen-generated data explorations in the development of civic technologies.
