Trabalho completo:

This paper describes the development of an on board CO2 capture system to reduce emissions from heavy-duty diesel vehicles. A real-traffic emissions (RDE) test cycle was developed, in compliance with the requirements of the relevant standards and legislation, in a truck adapted to the working conditions with the developed adsorbent material and to the local characteristics of the vehicle manufacturer. The vehicle adaptations involved the development of a reactor for encapsulation of the adsorbent material, without pressure drop, and the coupling of the monitoring system for the RDE test. A series of RDE tests were performed without the adsorption reactor, using blends of diesel oil, biodiesel and green diesel (HVO) in different percentages, without statistical difference. The tests measured the emissions of CO, CO2, THC, NMHC, CH4 and NOx and, with the reactor, the system's capacity to adsorb CO2. The results showed excellent CO2 capture. The tests with capture only during the urban cycle showed that CO2 capture was even more significant, showing that it was more effective in this cycle due to the lower exposure temperature of the adsorbent material. This project was in partnership with INT, UFMG, an automaker and the FUNDEP - ROTA 2030 program.
