In this work we present a brief review of the search for planets outside the Solar System, the so-called “exoplanets” in the context of astrobiology. We study the concept of habitability and define the stellar habitable zone, the region around a star in which it is possible to have liquid water in the surface of a rocky planet. We comment on the main methods of exoplanet detection, about the characteristics of those that have already been discovered, and we present examples of exoplanets with particular astrobiological interest. We conclude by briefly describing the evidence for the presence of life, the so-called biosignatures, currently considered the most promising, and the present and future missions with greater potential for new discoveries in the field of astrobiology.
