Factography and Design: art in the industrial era and its relation with the Soviet Constructivist photomontage in the 20s of the 20th century

Este artigo pretende analisar a situar o Design dentro do espectro da arte da era industrial e como o uso de determinadas ferramentas alterou a maneira de se pensar a produção de artefatos do dia a dia. Parte-se da análise da fotomontagem construtivista como referência para esta mudança de paradigma na elaboração de imagens e como esta mudança vai influenciar diretamente o design no século XX. Arte industrial pressupõe um novo paradigma na elaboração de artefatos e uma nova forma de pensar a arte e a produção de objetos no qual as ferramentas determinam, ou ao menos delimitam, elementos que estão diretamente ligados à produção industrial: a produção em série, o processo de montagem e uma estética centrada na máquina. A factografia seria o termo utilizado na década de 20 pelos produtivistas e construtivistas soviéticos para abarcar as expressões artísticas que estivessem dentro destes novos paradigmas como o cinema, a fotomontagem e o design.

Factography and Design: art in the industrial era and its relation with the Soviet Constructivist photomontageThis article intends to analyze to situate the Design within the spectrum of the art of the industrial era and how the use of certain tools changed the way to think the production of day-to-day artifacts. Starting from the analysis of the constructivist photomontage as a reference for this paradigm shift in the elaboration of images and how this change will directly influence the design in the XX century. Industrial art presupposes a new paradigm in the elaboration of artifacts and a new way of thinking the art and the production of objects in which the tools determine, or at least delimit, elements that are directly linked to the industrial production: the series production, the process and a machine-centered aesthetic. Factography would be the term used in the 1920s by Soviet productivists and constructivists to embrace the artistic expressions that were within these new paradigms such as cinema, photomontage and design.
